Very interesting news!

I read another recent post on this website which reports survey results that consumer willingness-to-pay higher prices for “green products and services” dropped from 59% (last year) to 44% (this year).

So the question remains as to the significance of that. I doubt the cause is a lessening of consumer concern for the major issues of environmental uncertainty (weather / climate), food prices, energy crisis, etc. It may very well be related to an increased cynicism or skepticism related to news like that above – about mega-corporations that are suddenly “going green” for profit.

That would be unfortunate, since so many smaller companies with genuine motives have been actively involved in promoting and expanding the market space for green/ethical/organic products and services for many years. But the positive aspect of this, is that many of the major corporations seeking to enter this marketplace tend to be much slower in responding to the realistic trends and grassroots indicators; they are usually several steps behind the true “sustainability innovators”.
